Together When Apart: "Timelines" Learning Extensions



In this weekly inquiry, students explore examples of timelines, from the Bayeux Tapestry to a Kiowa Winter Count, to learn how they are constructed and what purpose they serve.You can always challenge students to dig deeper into the inquiry, encouraging them to ask questions, make inferences, and take additional actions. Try the extensions below!


Reading/ELA Extensions

Source: Read any or all of the following biographies available on Epic! to learn more about these famous people’s lives!

Task: Prompts students to discuss or respond:

  • What were the most important events in this person’s life?

  • Make your own timeline of their life using the information in the book


3-5

Task: Have students read the book and consider the following questions:

  • What are some of the key events that happpened in Buffalo Bird Girl’s life?

  • How did the lives of the Hidatsa people change over time?

  • View the timeline at the end of the book to learn more about the history of the Native Americans and the Hidatsa people
